Miniverse is a creative toy and game company founded in 2019 with a mission to spark imagination and celebrate real-world heroes through collectible play. Based in the UK, Miniverse began by blending educational values with character-driven storytelling. Known for bold design and heartfelt themes, the company launched its flagship card game Miniverse Collectables: Covid Super Heroes in 2020, honouring everyday frontline workers. Miniverse continues to craft games that inspire empathy, learning, and fun for kids worldwide.
The brief was to create the visual identity and assets for Miniverse Collectables: Covid Super Heroes, a trading card game for ages 8+. Deliverables included a bold, kid-friendly logo; 60 illustrated character cards featuring everyday heroes like nurses and teachers, each with four stats: Courage, Teamwork, Endurance, and Impact. Designs for front and back card templates were required in a collectible TCG style. Also included were an illustrated, easy-to-follow rulebook and vibrant packaging that appealed to children and parents alike. All artwork needed to reflect optimism, diversity, and energy while supporting the game’s message of real-world heroism.
The Solution
My solution was to create a vibrant and inclusive visual identity that captured the spirit of everyday heroism. The logo featured bold, playful typography with a shield motif to suggest protection and strength. Each of the 60 character cards were illustrated with unique, stylized artwork highlighting essential workers such as nurses, teachers, and delivery drivers. The card templates used bright colours and clear stat sections for easy gameplay. The rulebook was designed with simple icons and step-by-step visuals to aid comprehension. Packaging combined collectible appeal with a cheerful tone, reflecting the game’s core values of empathy, resilience, and strategic fun.
Character Design
The characters were created using a “Mini-Me” concept—cute, stylized versions of real-life heroes with exaggerated proportions and bold silhouettes. The artwork was kept simple and clean using vector illustration for clarity and reproducibility. Each figure featured iconic elements, like uniforms and tools, to ensure instant recognition and visual consistency across the set.
Card Design
The card design was created using Adobe Illustrator for the vector characters and layout elements, and Photoshop for finishing touches, gradients, and effects. A clean, circular spotlight background emphasized each hero, while bold typography and clear stat alignment ensured readability. The overall style balanced fun, collectibility, and strategic clarity.
Packaging
The packaging was designed to be bold, compact, and collectible. A bright teal palette and playful logo ensure shelf standout, while the flip-top box structure offers durability for repeated play. Featuring a character emblem and strong typography, the design reinforces the heroic theme and instantly connects with its young target audience.
