Outpour

Outpour is a volunteer-led Christian ministry founded by Paul Yoon and Sam Williams over a decade ago in Ontario, Canada. It began as a one-day conference to inspire young adults to live with faith and purpose. Now Canada’s largest young adult gathering, Outpour draws over 1,700 attendees annually. Led by volunteers from the Greater Toronto Area, including Amber Tompkins and Cyril Guerette, the ministry continues to foster spiritual growth, community, and authentic faith journeys.

The Brief

The client requested a logo and creative assets centered on the theme "Rooted," aimed at young adults, college students, and Christian leaders in transitional life stages. The goal was to encourage faith reflection and build meaningful connections. Deliverables included a "Rooted" logo, color variations, file formats, an optional icon set, a complementary palette, and various animations. The design was to evoke simplicity while supporting personal spiritual growth and distinguishing inherited faith from personal belief. Inspired by earthy tones and a calm, introspective feel, the visuals were to align with a “cottagecore” aesthetic that reflects authenticity, connection, and spiritual grounding.

The Solution

Using the "Cottagecore" as the basis for the design style I created a large tree of life full of multi-coloured flowers that represented the diversity and enlightenment that the client wanted. I wanted the tree to be surrounded by a beautiful summer landscape with water and light cascades. The client also wanted the word "rooted" to be a prominent feature so I designed the visual in such a way that the scene could be viewed as a cross-section and the text would be situated underneath the tree with the roots growing in to it. Adding to this theme I introduced birds, deer, and a fox to fully enrich the key visual. The client also required 4 versions of the key visual to demonstrate the tree growing. These posters would be used at various staging points in the conference. These can be seen below.

Tree Of Life

It was necessary to create a customized tree that followed my original art direction so I used Speed Tree to design it exactly how I wanted. I created custom leaf and flower meshes with a unique root design that accommodate the text in the final design. The mesh was imported in to 3ds Max, rendered with VRay and then composited in Photoshop. The turn table of the final tree can be seen below. This render only shows the roots, trunk and branches with a default shader as to show the complexity of the underlying structure.

Animations

Various animations were required for the different functions of the conference. Ranging from a logo sting to lower thirds name plates to a reverse poem animation. It was necessary to create an animation style in the theme of "Cottagecore" and then execute the various animation tasks accordingly. These animations can be seen below.

Bumpers

I created an ink-style transition for the guest speaker quotes which you can see above. Below is a selection of images that were created with MidJourney for the backgrounds. It was more efficient to use AI to generate the images rather that spending hours searching through stock libraries as they were limited in their collections and the client wanted something very specific that the stock libraries did not have

Logo Sting

The client also wanted a loop-able logo sting that was based on a water theme. This can be seen below.
