Card Game Design

The Brief

Design the visual aesthetic of the card game from start to finish. Create all of the card designs, illustrations, packaging design, marketing collateral and game rule book.

Neighbour Cards

Illustrations were needed for the 58 diverse characters from “Chad the Garage Band Musician” to “Courtney the Cougar” to “Mike the DILF”. Cultural diversity and an age range of 20-50 needed to be implemented in the designs as well as a wide variety of character hobbies and pursuits. The client wrote all of the character descriptions and it was my task to bring these to life in a fun and engaging manner with a realistic illustration style.

Game Play Cards

Various game play cards were also needed that affected the over-all strategy:
Key gameplay cards include:

Quickie Cards: Accelerate your strategy by swiftly moving a neighbour into your bedroom.

Heater Cards: Turn up the heat and increase your chances of success.

Cooler Cards: Chill the competition by decreasing their progress.

Cock Block Cards: Sabotage opponents’ advances, delaying their progress.

Packaging Design

Packaging design was also required. The client wanted a simple and clean design that utilized iconography.

Marketing Visuals

Marketing visuals were required to help promote the product and take it to market. I focused on people playing and having fun as well as clear and descriptive visuals to demonstrate the game.

This was my first time working with Ross and it was a card game project requiring a lot of artwork. Being unfamiliar with the digital art world, I relied heavily on his expertise and keen eye to bring our card game to life. Outside of being an incredibly talented artist, he was also responsive, thoughtful and quick with revisions. I will definitely enlist Ross to help us in future projects.

Website Design

The client also asked me to design the website for the launch of the product in 2025. Using the marketing visuals that were created as part of the project, I created an engaging design to help maximise the campaign.
